Margaret Ruth Fleming Scott, 89, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014, at the Chase City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chase City following a brief illness. Mrs. Scott was born September 4, 1924, in Sevier County, Tennessee to James Walker Fleming and Verta Priscilla Ferguson Fleming. Mrs. Scott moved to Chase City as a child, attended the State Teachers College (Longwood University) where she met her husband, Berman Mason Scott, and taught school in Mecklenburg County for over 30 years. She was an active part of the Chase City Town Council and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
She leaves behind her daughter, Jane Scott Wiles of Virgilina; her son, Berman Mason Scott, II, (Rosemary) of California; her granddaughter, Jennifer Scott Benson (Nicholas) of Chase City; her granddaughter, Courtney Scott Reamey (Kenneth) of Nelson; her grandson-in-law, Anthony Rickman of Roanoke; her grandchildren, Brandon, Brian, and Melanie of California; her great-grandchildren, Derrick of Chesterfield and Gabriel of Chase City, Zachary and Madison of Nelson, and Ryan of Richmond and Amber of Roanoke; and many close relatives and friends. Mrs. Scott was predeceased by her husband, Berman Mason Scott; one granddaughter, Melissa Owen Newcomb Rickman; one son-in-law, Charlie Jearl Wiles; and her parents.
Visitation will take place Monday, February 10, 2014, from 7-8:30 at Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at 11:00 with burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church in Chase City.
