Violet Ellen Sherman

Violet Ellen Stewart Sherman, age 92, of Chase City, Va passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017. She was born on July 17, 1924 in Leaksville, N.C., now known as Eden, N.C., to the late Charles Dobbins Stewart and Jessie Knight Stewart.

Mrs. Sherman was a very active member of United Methodist Church in Strasburg, Va, Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Berryville, Va and Centenary United Methodist Church in Chase City, Va. She was a volunteer at The Hundley Center in South Hill, Va for 20 years.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Neal Allen Sherman, grandson, Neal Sherman, two brothers, Bill Stewart and Morton Stewart and one sister, Virginia Bowden.

She is survived by one daughter, Cynthia A. Sherman of Chase City, two sons, Allen Sherman and his wife, Sharon of Wylliesburg and William Sherman of Chase City, five grandchildren, Heather Shymansky and her husband, John of La Plata, Md, Timothy Sherman and his wife, Tasha of Chase City, Erik Sherman of Wylliesburg, Kevan Sherman and his wife, Amy of Chase City and Robert Sherman of New Bern, N.C. and six great-grandchildren, Tamia, Ashleigh, Jordan, Owen, Emma and Brendan. She is also survived by two sisters, Nancy Hill of Greensboro, N.C. and Ann Butler and her husband, Leonard of Burlington, N.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Woodland Cemetery in Chase City with Larry Lehman officiating.
