Louise T. Herndon Burks, age 93, of Clarksville, VA, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018. She was born January 11, 1925 in Mecklenburg County, VA and was the daughter of the late John Henry Thorpe and the late Eunice Gertrude Meade Thorpe.

She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Skipwith, VA and retired from O’ Brien’s Drug Store.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clarence Gillispie Herndon and Morton James Burks; daughter, Karen Lynn Herndon; granddaughter, Brooke Elizabeth Baughan; brother, Raymond Thorpe; two sisters, Frances Foster and Marion Herndon; and step-son, Morton James “Jimmy” Burks, Jr.

Louise is survived by her son, James C. Herndon and wife, Judy of Nelson, VA; daughter, Elizabeth Herndon Baughan of Chase City, VA; granddaughter, Lynn Herndon Chapman and husband, Sean; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Williamson, Zachary Chapman, and Landon Chapman; and one sister, Ruth Hightower. She is also survived by her step-daughter, JoAnne Sprouse; step-grandchildren, Christy Renner, Jamie Burks, Steven Burks, Mary Jo Duncan, Melissa Sprouse, and Clarence Sprouse III; and devoted friends, Delores Burks and Dorothy Matherly.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 12, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Church Fellowship Hall.
