Billy Averette

William Gene “Billy” Averette, 84, of Chase City, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 25, 2026. He was born November 21, 1941 in Skipwith, Virginia and is the son of the late John Albert “Buster” Averette and the late Florence Newton Averette.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Duffer Averette and his brother, Wayne Averette.

Billy is survived by his daughter, Gina Mull (Scott); his son, Mark Averette (Elaine); two grandsons, Chase Averette (Shelby) and Cody Mull (Megan); and is lovingly known as Papa to his great-grandchildren, Chloe and Riley Averette and Grayson, McKinley and Layla Mull. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and his life long friend, Wayne Crump.

He is a United States Army Veteran and was well known for proudly flying the American flag from his truck, a symbol of his patriotism. Billy retired as Bank Manager from Central Fidelity Bank in Drakes Branch. He was a farmer, an avid hunter known to many as “Money Man,”and loved word searches. He was a life long member of New Hope Baptist Church in Skipwith where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the American Legion Post 43, treasurer for the National Wild Turkey Foundation, treasurer for the South Central Fair Association, and former member of the Chase City Rescue Squad. He took great pride in being present for his grandsons and great-grandchildren, faithfully attending their sporting events and special occasions. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud Papa who cherished his family.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Pittman officiating. Interment will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
