Brenda Compton DeJarnette, age 85, of Red Oak, Virginia passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026. She was born March 7, 1941 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia and is the daughter of the late Thomas Vincent Compton and the late Dorothy Adcock Compton Clark. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Sabrina Glenn; her son-in-law, Gwynn Reid; and her grandson, Leonard Pharr III.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Leo Hagood DeJarnette; two daughters, Eva DeJarnette Reid and Ginger DeJarnette Yancey (Matt); her grandchildren, Tara Glenn, Jennifer Wilkerson (James), Jarrod McCall (Teri), Grayson Reid (Adrian), Jade Brankley (Heath), Alanna Jones (Dustin), Sara Reid, Ethan Reid, Ashley Slabach (Tyler), Zachary Pharr (Emily Major) and Gregory Pharr (Maggie); and her great-grandchildren, Sabrina and Sam Elliott, Evelyn and Wyatt Adams, Clayton, Colton and Carson McCall, Rozlyn and Leland Reid, Miranda and Charlie Brankley, Jase and Danny Jones, Krista and McKenzie Glascock, Owen Jones, and Elizabeth Pharr. 

She is a member of Public Fork Christian Church in Red Oak. Brenda was an animal rescuer and affectionately known as the “skunk whisperer.” Her greatest joys in life were her family and animals. 

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Public Fork Christian Church Cemetery, 1700 Jeb Stuart Highway, Red Oak, Virginia 23964. Evangelist Denis Fritz will be officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the gravesite. 

The family kindly request privacy at this time but welcome all to her service on Sunday and welcome friends and family to visit with Leo in the months to come.
