Brenda Gayle Stembridge Hamlette, 75, of Rustburg, Virginia formerly of Chase City, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born November 11, 1950 and is the daughter of the late Robert James Stembridge and the late Frances Elizabeth Trent Stembridge.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Jerry Wayne Hamlette, Sr.; her daughters, Cheryl Lloyd Card (David Napier) and Sherry Lynn Williams (Michael); her son, J.W. Hamlette (Kelsea); two granddaughters, Crystal Rodriguez Arcila (Juan) and Bristol Hamlette; a grandson son on the way, Hayes Hamlette; and a great-grandson on the way, Thiago Rodriguez Arcila. She is also survived by her “special son,” Forrest Tanner; her “lil sister,” Connie Rickman Clark; and numerous loving cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her special friends better known together as the “bathing beauties,” Estelle Redmond, Judy Ferrell, and Brenda Wilson; and her beloved dog, Buddy.
Brenda is a Bluestone High School graduate, Class of 1969. She enjoyed driving the school bus for Campbell County Public Schools and touched the lives of many children throughout her career because she loved them all as her own. She was also employed at Lowe’s and made many friends during her time there. She loved gardening, tending to her flowers, and spending time with all of her family. Brenda was known to all as very kind, loving and giving.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 15, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend John Sines, Jr. and Pastor Woody Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Because of Brenda’s giving nature and love for animals, the family requests in lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to the Lake Country SPCA or Friends of Campbell County Animal Control.
