Dorothy King

Dorothy Ellen Meador King, age 96, of Red Oak, Virginia passed away Monday, December 5, 2022. She was born August 24, 1926 in Cumberland County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Marion Hartwell Meador and the late Pernie Ellen Needham Meador.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Woodson King and two brothers, Hunter Meador and Marion H. Meador, Jr.

She was a long-time member of Antioch Baptist Church in Red Oak, VA. She was a retired Secretary for George Bagwell Law Firm and also volunteered at Halifax Regional Hospital. She loved sewing, cooking, growing her own roses and arranging flowers. 

Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, Sandra Bernstein (Bruce) of Yorktown, Nancy Harding (Steve, predeceased) of Chesterfield and Debbie Winston (Bill) of Richmond; grandchildren, David Bernstein, Laura Grizzard (Kurt), Jeffrey Bernstein, Brian Harding (Ashley), Megan Davis (Scott), Kaitlyn Winston and Lindsey Peters (Matt); great grandchildren, Samuel Bernstein, Hudson Grizzard, Harper Grizzard, Camden Harding, Shea Harding,  Afton Farris, Rory Davis and Reese Peters; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church with Pastor Kristen White officiating. The family will receive friends in the church’s fellowship hall from 12 p.m. until the service time at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
