Robert “Earl” West, age 79, of Chase City, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
He was born July 25, 1944 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia and was the son of the late George Washington West and the late Kate Lou Bridges West.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald West and his sister, Juanita West Foster.
Earl is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cindy West; three daughters, Kimberly West Fuller (Shawn Rickman) of Clarksville, Beverly West Eichman (Timothy) of Florida, and Kristie West Newcomb (Scott) of Chase City; grandchildren, Katie Wallace (Richard), Kara Jo Smith, Kevin Fuller, Alex Eichman (Raffy), Hannah Eichman, Nathan Newcomb, and Sydney Newcomb; and great-grandchildren, Kaiden Smith, Riley Wallace and Ren Eichman. He is also survived by his brother, Larry West (Eva); his best buddy, Steve Owen; and many well loved in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Earl loved a good challenge and if it was broken, most likely he could fix it. He loved building street rods, restoring old cars and a junkyard was his playground. He was the proud owner and operator of Earl’s Street Rod and Signs and was also employed for Hampco Apparel for 13 years. He loved Bluegrass music and was the original bass player for Appalachian Express for 42 years. During that time, he restored several buses for the group to travel in. He was very proud of his music career. Earl was a real people person - he loved to meet folks and get to know them. He was always lending a helping hand. Earl served his country in Vietnam from 1965 until 1967. He was very patriotic and loved his country. He is a lifelong member of Concord Baptist Church in Chase City.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 14, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Joe McDowell officiating. Interment will follow in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors by the United States Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post 79. The family will receive family and friends following the service in the church’s fellowship hall.
