Edna Coates Allred, 85, of Chase City, Virginia went to her heavenly home on Sunday, June 2, 2024. Born on September 25, 1938, she was the daughter of the late James E. Coates and the late Helen B. Clay Coates.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Alexis Rayne Hardy.
The oldest of four children, Edna often cared for her siblings growing up due to their mother’s health. She was a very hard worker and retired from Yancey Supply in South Boston, VA.
Edna was a devoted, loving great-grandmother to her great-grandchildren, Caleigh M. Burns, Brooklyn N. Burns and Landon A. Burns. She spent the past nine years raising them and devoting all of her time and energy into making sure they were loved and that their needs were put before her own. They were blessed to have her and they loved her very dearly in return.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Chase City, VA.
Edna is survived by her husband, Ralph M. Allred; children, Rhonda C. Allred of Chase City, VA, Diane Ches (Ron) of Chesterfield, VA and Cindy Watson of Danville, VA; grandchildren, Andy Burns and Kristin Hardy; two sisters, Hilda C. Wallace (Bill) of Riverside, California and Yvonne C. Gravitt of South Boston, VA; brother, Edward Lanny Coates (Brenda) of Petersburg, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private Celebration of Edna’s life will be held later this summer.
