Jerry Raymond Smith, 73, of Chase City, Virginia passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023. He was born July 18, 1949 in Halifax County, Virginia and was the son of the late John Raymond Smith and the late Margaret Benfield Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Avery Smith; sister, Kay Smith Garnett (Peter); father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Blanche Wood; sisters-in-law, Barbara W. Smith (William), Isiah Wood, Blanche W. Grill (Wade); and brother-in-law, George Wood.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mahalia Wood Smith; daughters, Sherrie Smith Carter (Jonathan) of Clarksville, Chevon Bradby (Vincent) of Chase City, and Myranda Smith (Zackery) of Chase City; god-daughter, Madison Harris; and grandchildren, Ania Tucker, Jayda Tucker, Ciara Robertson, Rihanna Robertson, Kanan Bradby, Kody Bradby, Serenity Johnson, and Aaron Jones. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Smith Moore (Eddie) of Chase City; sisters-in-law, Joyce Ann Wood, Brula Wood, Hazel Harris (Lorenzo), Gracie Pulliam (George, deceased), Sandra Wood, and Arlene Redd; brothers-in-law, James Wood (Bernice), and Irvin Wood; special friends, JR Grandizio, Marcus Dailey, Christopher Small, Pauline Callahan, and Eddie Duffer; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
He was baptized at First Baptist Church in Chase City as a child. He was a graduate of Bluestone Senior High School and the owner and operator of Jerry’s Country Market for many years. Jerry loved watching all sports; he enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, and playing cards. Above all else, Jerry loved spending time with his friends and family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home Chapel.
