Chase City, Virginia

Jimmie Yancey Wilkerson, age 96, of Chase City, VA passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 14, 2024 and has gone to his eternal resting place to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His loving family was able to say their goodbyes and he was happy to see each one.

Jimmie was born November 29, 1927 at home in Esnon, Virginia to the late Richard Ben Wilkerson, Sr. and Elva Alice Smith Wilkerson.  He graduated from Chase City High School and was a member of the Future Farmers of America.  After graduation, he farmed tobacco and worked at the Chase City Tobacco Warehouse.  He met the love of his life, Virginia Ann “Pete” Watts, daughter of the late Reverend Charles Howard Watts and Bettie Ellen Fallen. After Pete graduated from Peace College in Raleigh, North Carolina, they married on November 2, 1950. Jimmie joined the Carpenters Union and he and Pete moved to Gordonsville, Virginia to help build the North Anna Nuclear Power Station.  From there they moved to St. Francisville, Louisiana to help build the River Bend Nuclear Station. Jimmie and Pete retired from there and returned to their farm in Chase City, the home they both loved.  Jimmie’s love of the land had him planting large gardens and sharing his bounty with friends and family.  They also started making sweet pickle and everyone looked forward to their jar each season. He was known as the most loving, giving and caring man to everyone he met. Jimmie and Pete were long time members of Herman Presbyterian Church in Saxe, VA.
