Nathaniel Hunter Carnes, 20, of Red Oak, VA went to be with our Lord on Sunday, May 5, 2024. He was born September 13, 2003 in South Hill, VA.

He was a life long member of Public Fork Christian Church in Red Oak, VA and would always step up to be in the Christmas play or help out at VBS as Cooper. He graduated Randolph-Henry High School in 2021 and loved working at Staunton River State Park, where he never met a stranger.

Hunter was the son of Laura Tharpe Carnes (Joe Hostetter) of Red Oak and Byrt (Callie) Carnes of Buffalo Junction.

He was preceded in death by his paternal great grandparents, Neal and Annie Carnes and Naomi Hawk; grandfather, Buddy Thames; and his beloved uncle, Christopher Neal Carnes. Along with his parents, Hunter is survived by his sister, Stephanie Price (Victor Yore) of South Boston; brother, Justin Price of Red Oak; grandparents, William & Christine Tharpe of Red Oak and Jimmie & Sharon Carnes of Chase City; aunts and uncles, Kim & Lee Lenhart of Chase City, Jenny & Henry Davis of Chase City, CW Tharpe of Saxe, Wanda Neely of Midlothian, Jimmie & Dee Carnes of Cumberland, Melanie Carnes (Stacy) of Chase City and Christy Tharpe of Saxe; cousins, Garrett, Austin (Laura), Brian (Courtney), Krystyn, Robbie, Kaitlan (Shaun), Josh (Emma), Kinsley, Cash, Adalind, Santana and Bristol; extended family, Kathy Thames, Trey & Nicholas Thames, the Hostetter family, the Hall family, Isaac Napier, Blake Rickman, Eric Hudgins, Neal Wilmouth, Dakota Beachum; many relatives; friends; church family and coworkers. He also leaves behind his beloved pets, Ginger and Midnight.

Hunter loved many things about this world but especially Astronomy, Reading, Music, History, Tacos, Ramen noodles, Antiquing, Thrifting, Rocks, Talking and meeting people, Bruce Lee, Video games, Computers, Asian culture, Being outdoors, Fishing and Playing with his younger cousins. He enjoyed going on adventures with Papa William and they always had a story to tell.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm-2:00 pm, Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Public Fork Christian Church, where Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm with Evangelist Denis Fritz officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. (The family will receive friends at the home at all other times.)

Hunter loved his family and friends and will be dearly missed.

 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Public Fork Christian Church Cemetery Fund (1720 Jeb Stuart Hwy, Red Oak, VA 23964), the SPCA or your favorite charity.
