Raymond Langford, Sr.

Clarksville, Virginia

Raymond Wesley Langford, Sr., 82, of Clarksville, Virginia passed away Friday, January 20, 2023 at his home. He was born February 18, 1940 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia and was the son of the late Samuel Wesley Langford and the late Maggie Bell Robbins Langford. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Langford. 

Raymond is survived by his wife, Cindy Carter Langford of Clarksville; daughters, Beverly Langford Willis (Paul) of Fort Mitchell, Janet Langford Lawson (David) of Clarksville, and Carol Langford Hartsoe of Chase City; son, Ray Langford, Jr. (Denise) of Red Oak; step-sons, Kevin Lee Johnson and Kenneth Lane Johnson; grandchildren, Cameron Hartsoe, Jacob Lawson (Mary), Samantha Langford (Gunnar Nelson), Jessica Lawson Barker (Dillan), and Shirl Hartsoe; one great-granddaughter, Callen Grey Nelson; and his beloved “fur babies,” Amos, Andy, and Izzi. He is also survived by two close friends, Jeff Winn and James Page. 

Raymond was member of Ephesus United Methodist Church. He was the former owner of Ray’s Auto and Ray’s Recapping in Chase City. He was also a self-employed auto parts salesman. He was very involved in his community and enjoyed helping others. He was a founding member of The Optimist Club in Chase City, former Boy Scout Scoutmaster, and also volunteered at the Chase City Community Ballpark. He was widely known on Tradio as “Crappie Man.” Raymond loved his grandchildren and enjoyed being at the lake, fishing and having fish fries. 

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the lake at a later date. 

Visitors are welcome at Raymond and Cindy’s home in Clarksville.
