Richard Winfree Stone, 77, of Clarksville, Virginia passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026. He was born October 2, 1948 and is the son of the late Maxey E. Stone and the late Elizabeth Leidig Stone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Willis Lee Stone and Robert Hamilton Stone.
Richard is survived by his two daughters, Katherine Stone (Corey) of Clarksville and Laura Stone DeCarlo (Jason) of Nelson; grandchildren, Adrianna Pettus (Jamil) and Connor DeCarlo; and great-grandchildren, Isabelle Rivero, Jamil Pettus, Jr., and Khalil Pettus. He is also survived by his caregiver, Annette Durham and his special friends, Karen Brown, Carolyn Atkins and Sharon Fassold.
During his younger years, he was the lead singer and played “the heck out of a tambourine” for the Rock-n-Roll band, The Titans. He proudly served his country and is a United States Air Force Veteran. He was a Telephone Repairman for Continental Telephone Company until 1982 when he was involved in a work related accident that changed the course of his life and left him blind. Although he faced many challenges after his accident, he overcame all of the obstacles. He found joy in stamp collecting and coin collecting. Each year for Christmas he gifted his grandchildren and great-grandchildren silver dollars. He also enjoyed shooting guns at the range. Richard loved his Milk Duds and Nutty Buddies. He has always loved Rock music and recently enjoyed telling his Alexa to play him a song any hour of the day or night. Other than listening to music, his nightly routine included Jeopardy at 7 and Wheel of Fortune at 7:30. He was a former member of the Virginia Beach Town Center-Blind Lions Club. He has a large community of friends from the Burkeville Lodge, Lions Club and Salvation Army. He was very social, never met a stranger, and always had a story to tell. Above all else, Richard loved his daughters and his grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Joshua Brown will officiate and the United States Air Force Honor Guard will perform military honors. The family will receive friends following the service.
