Thomas Albert Gryder, 87, of Chase City, Virginia passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2026. He was born July 28, 1939 and is the son of the late William F. Gryder and the late Muriel Redick Gryder.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William F. Gryder Jr. “Sonny.”
Tom is survived by his wife, Patricia Poole Gryder; his daughters, Cheryl Gryder Fox (Danny) and Deborah Gryder Parsons (Fred); grandchildren, Trevor Fox (Sarah), Danielle Ashworth (Tyler), Sarah Young (Jeb), Lindsey Parsons and Brandon Parsons; great-grandchildren, Ava and Kinsley Fox, Wyatt Ashworth, Brian Farmer and Brian’s father, Michael Farmer.
Tom was a Dairy Manager at A & P Grocery for many years before he started as a Correctional Officer at Mecklenburg Correctional Center and later retired from Baskerville Correctional Center. He was a charter member of the Chase City Rescue Squad and proudly answered the very first call. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Chase City and was also a longtime member of Butchers Creek Hunt Club. An avid outdoorsman, he found great enjoyment in hunting and in tending to his garden. He was a talented woodworker who enjoyed working with his hands and especially enjoyed crafting knives.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery in Chase City, Virginia.
