Wesley Eugene “Gene” Morrow, 86, of Chase City, Virginia passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025. He was born September 25, 1938 in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was the son of the late George Wesley Morrow and the late Elizabeth Coe Morrow.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Alice Riddle Morrow and two sisters, Joyce Poythress and Linda Duncan.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Teresa Morrow Thompson of South Hill; son, Greg Harris (Kathe Harris) of Colonial Heights; son-in-law, Jeff Thompson; grandchildren, Brennan Thompson (J.C. Williams), Amber Harris Maxwell (Patrick Maxwell), and Heather Richey (Eric Richey); and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Ryan Richey. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and special caretakers, Tammy Coleman, Jeff Seay and Sherri Hutcheson.
Gene was a United States Navy Veteran. After his time in the military, he moved to Chase City in 1961 where he eventually met the love of his life, Kitten Morrow. He retired from Virginia Homes in Boydton after 30 years of employment. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Skipwith, but most recently, he was attending First Christian Church in Chase City. Gene was very musically inclined and an entertainer. He enjoyed performing and playing his guitar in the Haw Hee in Chase City every year to benefit the local fire and rescue. He loved old country music, bluegrass and was an avid Elvis fan.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Mike Reynolds officiating.
